it's the shelf show!

Eagle-eyed Shelfers will notice that the last two weeks have been scanty here on The Shelf. While we have been keeping up with the media roundup, it appears that we haven't had much else to say. Au contraire, mon frere! We have been hard at work on a new project for your enjoyment and we now present to you The Shelf Podcast! Here is what we hope will be at least a monthly installment of The Shelf Show with Wolf and myself. We may also drop in solo podcast installments from time to time, but we look forward to having full episodes of the show uploaded here every month for you, the discerning Shelfer! Just click on the links below to download or listen to the show. The first episode has been broken into two separate files for easier consumption.

In this episode of The Shelf Podcast:
  • We look at the results of our James Bond poll
  • Wolf and I divulge our Top 5 Bond films
  • We review the recent John Ford/John Wayne Box Set
  • We do a DVD roundup overview for the month of August
  • and much more...

Just clink on the links next to ol' whatshisname to listen to the show! Or right click to download

The Shelf Podcast, Ep.1, Part 1

The Shelf Podcast, Ep.1, Part 2

Please remember this is just the first episode and forgive any imperfections and technical difficulties as we perfect our performance and our technology. Also please let us know what you think about the show. Sound off in the comments section or email us at randomshelf@hotmail.com.

No media roundup this week as the podcast covers most of what we would have included. But the media roundup will be back next week: same Shelf station, same Shelf time.

We'll be back later in the week. Pass the word about the podcast and... enjoy the show!

Just a few quick links to some interesting posts in and around the Shelf Community:

Bob Hope knows Democrats when he sees 'em.: Libertas.
How Movie Theaters waged the entertainment "wars" with early TV: Greenbriar.
Christian is looking for a few (many) good sci-fi books and fantasy books: Cinerati.
Mid-week free for all- is the Shelf there?: Stop the Aclu.
Many cultural elitists might have problems with some of the preambles to the constitutions of our states. I say too bad. So does Maggie's Farm.
Finally, Mary Worth has a stalker? Get real: Curmudgeon.

Oh, I know it's a penny here and a penny there, but look at me. I worked myself up from nothing to a state of extreme poverty.

World domination. The same old dream. Our asylums are full of people who think they're Naploeon. Or God.

Pretty cool that you did an audioblog entry.

What programs did you use to make your episode?

Audacity was used for the recording and editing. There was some obvious fumbling that you will hear in the webcast ,bbut it is our first and we're essentialy a couple of laymans when it comes to this type of thing. We hope to do a monthly audio installment if this one is received well. We understand we are running the risk of a stink-bomb blowing up in our faces ,but you never know 'til you try. Listen, enjoy, share.

Enjoyed the show very much. It was neat being able to listen to you guys while I was doing boring accounting stuff. I gave my husband the JW-JF Box set for Father's Day and enjoyed it as much as he did. I agree with your review 100%, but would like to add that I liked that Ford also had a special relationship with the women in his "stock company" He held annual "rosebud" dinners for them- none of the guys were allowed! Although JW and a couple of the other actors showed up for a few minutes to honor the ladies. Ford had some very strong female characters in his films (for the time).
Keep it up guys- it sounded like you had fun and that made it fun for me... I shared your show with some of my co-workers and we look forward to the next one.

Enjoyed your podcast. Constructive comment- look into a different microphone. One micro for two people doesn't work as well. I had the same problem for a different project and found that separate microphones do the trick.
Best of luck, hope to hear more.

Thanks for the advice. We have two mics but have a problem getting them to record at once. We've heard that a splitter cable helps. Do you know ,possibly, of any other way to make that
work. We appreciate any tips.

I liked the podcast episode- although I was looking forward to hearing more info about the box set. Could we get more podcast dvd reviews in the future. Limited funds means limited dvd purchases -it's nice to be able to hear clips and hear about it rather than have to read through reviews. It's alos great to hear what I feel is a "regular guy review" and no well-fed critic's political bias. More regular guy reviews!

Good audio-blog. I enjoyed listening to the back and forth between you two- you must be related somehow. I have just one comment: the voice audio was too low. But from looking at a previous comment- you seemed to have microphone trouble. Maybe a commentary segment on one of the issues you've been covered on your posts! Or an interview!

Wolf Flywheel said...

Juliasmile-- To answer your question:Yes we are related. We are actually brothers. We'd love to do an interview, but an interview source may be hard to come by. Most people we would love to talk to have either passed away or they may not answer an invite from a couple of knuckleheads like us.We would certainly do a commentary like you mentioned. Any suggestions? Look for a webcast from myself before the weekend is out.

This is the previous anonymous-
Wolf- perhaps a audio splitter with the two mics will work plugged in the sound card. I bought an inexpensive one from amazon. I know of someone who routed two mics into an inexpensive mixing/level board which then plugged into the sound card. Hope that helps! Good luck- look forward to more!
