haunted mansion

Welcome foolish mortals to another installment in the 2009 edition of The Shelf's Halloween Madness! Today we feature a look at the history of Walt Disney's Haunted Mansion featuring interviews with creators and Imagineers. Enjoy!

Part 1:

Part 2:

And it wouldn't be Halloween with surprises and extra treats! I used to have the Fisher Price Movie Viewer with the hand crank- and the cartoon cartridges. Among others I had the Disney Lonesome Ghosts cartoon cartridge! Anyone else remember this sweet little item? I had fun making the ghosts and the surfboard scene go backwards and forwards over and over again. I was easily entertained. I guess nothing changes.

So here is your bonus treat: Lonesome Ghosts!

Stay tuned for more of the Shelf's Halloween Madness 2009! This week- the best of our classic candy reviews and a new one or two!

Oh, I know it's a penny here and a penny there, but look at me. I worked myself up from nothing to a state of extreme poverty.

Oh I'm brave, but I'm careful.

Thanks for stopping by Tom- and from the looks of the picture you upgraded cameras! Yeah- wish I could find that FP Movie Viewer now, as probably we all wish we had the things of our childhood. It has made me more careful with my children's things though and not too quick to throw them out or give them away when they are done.

I still have my viewmaster and most of my disks, though! Lol PS that camera is somewhere near the Kirk Douglas Theater in Culver City/Los Angeles.

My brother also had the "Lonesome Ghost" cartridge, though I don't believe the viewer was FisherPrice. It was some other brand, I think. Like you, I also remember cranking that cartoon backward and forward for the surfboard scene. All the water (silently) gushing in. Absolutely thrilling.

Tom- did you have the motion viewer with the little TV screen? That was like having a big screen HD tv in my kid-sized circle.
Jacqueline- Thanks for stopping by- I am glad that I'm not the only one who knows about the "surfboard scene" and watching the water gushing in and out! Nice to know I wasn't the only geek!

Even as a child I liked to over-analyze.

Actually, when I see the cartoon today, I miss that "click-click" sound of the cranking. Remember that?

I don't know if I had a motion viewer, but I did have the one in the picture you posted - the movie viewer with the "click click" sound. I loved that!
